Projects

Aberdeen City council area. Every figure carries its own date.

Named local schemes and plans, with the responsible body and the latest stage established by the source checked. A proposal, funding announcement and completed project are different things.

Union Street, The Green and Market Street

New city-centre market

A new market venue is designed to bring food businesses and improve walking connections between Union Street and the stations.

Construction reported progressing; completion not verified · evidence dated 2025-08-06

Responsible body: Aberdeen City Council

Latest evidence: The August 2025 council update says market construction is progressing alongside city-centre street improvements. This is evidence of work in progress, not a public opening.

Next thing to establish: What is the approved cost, including ongoing maintenance?

Questions for the next progress report

  • Which funding is committed, and what remains conditional?
  • Which neighbourhoods are covered by an official project plan, and which benefits still need testing?
  • What is the next published milestone, and what evidence will show residents benefit?

Aberdeen City Council housing and homelessness services

Council-home safety and empty-home improvements

The housing regulator is monitoring electrical safety work, long waits to re-let empty homes and pressure on homelessness services. Its April 2026 plan requires further improvement.

Regulatory monitoring and improvement requirements; resolution not verified · evidence dated 2026-04-02

Responsible body: Aberdeen City Council, monitored by the Scottish Housing Regulator

Latest evidence: The regulator asks for monthly updates on electrical inspection work and quarterly engagement on homelessness. It also requires better performance on re-letting and rent arrears. These are reported concerns, not findings that every home is unsafe.

What is still missing

The reviewed local schemes are a selected evidence collection, not a complete council capital programme.

Current service capacity, incomes, waiting lists, school demand and project outcomes need additional verified local evidence before firm claims can be made.

Project locations have not been matched to official ward boundaries. No ward-specific delivery claims are inferred.

Costs, funding and benefits are only reported where the selected official evidence states them; blank fields are not zero.

Some dated project updates have elapsed target dates. A newer completion record is needed before changing their delivery status.

The regulator’s April 2026 requirements are retained as dated concerns. Current outstanding safety-work counts and evidence that the concerns have been resolved have not been verified.
